Economic Participation Central Bedfordshire 2010-11

TheSkills4Work 2′ project was designed to target and engage reluctant and disadvantaged learners onto ‘into employment assistance’ and interventions designed to develop their skills.

The project delivered short, pre entry style learning episodes, up to level 2,  with the aim of using these episodes as steppingstones towards employment, further education/training (including full level 2 qualifications), volunteering or the development of skills for life for the individuals participating.

The majority of delivered interventions were geared towards developing the IT skills of participants. All of the delivered interventions had embedded literacy and numeracy skills and where appropriate learners were signposted for further help to improve these key functional skills. Learners accessed anything from 9 to 14 hours of skills development training, on average attending 10.37 hours of learning. In addition to attending the core learning activities all participants were given a training needs analysis prior to their learning and an exit IAG session on completion. The IAG session served to signpost learners to their next appropriate step and gave them the forum to discuss their future aspiration in terms of learning and work.

Those learners who participated on the ‘assisted to get a job’ intervention were given personalised, focussed help and guidance with ‘into work’ based activity such as CV writing, interview skills and techniques and job search.
