ESF ‘Healthy Steps to Employment’ 2011-13

The Healthy Steps to Employment (HStE) Project is an NHS supported initiative which will bridge a much needed gap in support for people who are claiming out of work benefits due to a work limiting illness, enabling them to manage their health condition so that they are able to return to paid employment.

The project will provide innovative, evidence based clinical care through an individual package of support to aid the transition from benefits into employment through an intensive programme led by health care professionals.

The project will offer 120 participants a comprehensive health assessment with a Health and Wellbeing Nurse Advisor where they will receive an  individually tailored action plan of  interventions designed to help them address their health and employment issues. Participants will be referred to one or more of the specialist interventions, depending on their condition and their stage in the journey back in to work. This could include access to employment support and volunteering to prepare individuals for a return to employment.

Throughout their programme the participant will have access to a Health and Wellbeing Nurse Advisor who will advise and guide them throughout the programme.

‘ESF is a partnership initiative with Central Bedfordshire Council and Bedford Borough Council as part of their ongoing commitment to improve economic development and employment throughout Bedfordshire’.
