English Language Training (ELT)

The English Language Training project provides migrant workers and those individuals from BME communities who are in employment with access to a range of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) opportunities at different levels:

  • Pre-entry level ESOL
  • ESOL at Work
  • Level 3 Tutor support
  • Leadership and Management qualifications

The main focus of the provision is on pre-entry level ESOL – enabling migrant workers to develop and acquire basic English language skills.

These are occupationally specific skills, meeting both the employers needs for a skilled workforce and providing the learner with the language skills needed to progress within the workplace as well as in their local community.  Overall increasing social inclusion.

The purpose of the English language training is to encourage better accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness in the workplace as well as enabling the employer to benefit from improved communications and productivity.

The project provides access to Level 3 Tutor support qualifications (Certificate in Adult English in ESOL) for migrants with the desire and skills to act as bi-lingual learner support as well as Level 3 Technical and Management qualifications for those with the ambition to progress within the workplace.

The focus is on three of the identified skills sectors including Health and Social Care, Construction and LANTRA (Land-based & Environmental Industries).

The project aims to offer all participants a wrap around IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance) service at the start, mid-point and programme end.
