Skills for Life Project

Skills for Life is the national strategy for improving adult Literacy and Numeracy skills.  There is a shortage of Skills for Life teachers in the East of England (as there is in the UK as a whole).  This project ‘The Skills for Life Teacher Education, Training and Support Project’, built on and enhances the capacity of the region’s workforce to develop, support and deliver effective Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL provision to disadvantaged groups.  The Project encompassed Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire areas.

Key aspects of the project were to:

  • Raise awareness of Skills for Life.
  • Establish the structure, shape and size of the Skills for Life workforce in the region and set targets for the numbers and other staff to be recruited and/or trained.
  • Deliver regional ‘train the trainers’ programmes for teacher trainers.
  • Disseminate good practice across the region.

The Skills for Life Teacher Education, Training and Support Project, funded by the European Social Fund, commenced on 1st April 2005 and finished on 30th March 2007.

The project was ESF funded.
