Representation
With Government encouraging involvement of voluntary and community groups in shaping and delivering services, CVS's enables the views of local groups to be represented. For example, many CVS's run voluntary and community sector forums which provide an opportunity for local groups to put forward their views on national and local policies.
Services and Support
North Beds CVS can support voluntary and community groups by providing them with a range of services. We have four fully-equipped meeting rooms that can cater for up to 40 people, as well as photocopying, faxing and laminating facilities. Every six weeks we produce Beds-Spread, our newsletter which goes out to over 250 voluntary and community groups and statutory organisations and contains advice, information and details of our training services.
Training
We run a training programme throughout the year, which enables voluntary and community groups to access high-quality training relevant to the voluntary sector at affordable prices. Our programme includes courses such as Personal Safety at Work, Strategic Management, Basic First Aid, and Communication Skills, and we are also able to offer specifically-tailored in-house courses for our member organisations.
Development
North Beds CVS provides help and support for new and up-and coming organisations which need some guidance. For example, we can help them with their constitution, their policies, funding applications and explain how to become a registered charity. We can also provide them with free legal advice and free accountancy services.
Liaison
As a focal point for the local voluntary and community sector, North Beds CVS encourages networking between individuals and groups within the sector. This allows local groups to learn from one another, establish contacts and work more efficiently.
