New Age Training - BEADS

Business Enterprise and Development Skills (BEADS)

This project was aimed at hard to reach learners.  New Age Training built upon its extensive experience in working with and supporting community groups in both rural and urban settings to develop and deliver a programme designed to meet the needs of the NLDC target groups.  New Age Training delivered a series of workshops that developed and promoted business enterprise.  The training provided skills in jewellery making.  Embedded in the curriculum were functional and business skills.  As a result of the sessions, individuals learnt basic techniques in bead jewellery, developing creative ideas, using design tools, on line resources and reference books to plan and design their work.  The dual function of the programme improved the chances of those who were low skilled.

Learners were offered valuable advice and support for people thinking about setting up their own business as a result of this presentation.  Included in the process was guidance on marketing techniques, simple record keeping and organisational skills to help them promote and manage their business.  Advice was also given on copyright issues regarding designs and patterns.  This was an opportunity for learners to explore their creative side and business potential.  They also had the opportunity to increase their self-confidence and motivation and also to explore the avenue of self employment.

The project was a great opportunity to demonstrate to the learners the benefits of entrepreneurship as a career option.  Awareness was raised amongst learners about the importance of entrepreneurship as a viable career option and the value of entrepreneurial skills in personal and career endeavours.  Learners were supported through the project to move forward with their journey towards work.  Help was given to them to look for work and for new learning opportunities.  With the inclusion of Jobsearch and the furthering of opportunities for the learners enhanced by the provision of formal IAG sessions, the project aimed to promote wider learning.
