BME Capacity Building Project
The BME Capacity Building Project aimed to strengthen 15 BME community groups through capacity building focussed on business planning and ensuring each group is better able to access funding to develop learning opportunities for their clients in Bedfordshire & Luton.
- To engage 15 groups across Bedfordshire and Luton to build their capacity to access funding opportunities.
- To support groups to develop business planning, policies and procedures to meet requirements of public funding.
- To support groups and organisations to prepare effective funding applications
- To develop the capacity of identified organisations for self-sufficiency, accessing regional and national funding to lever additional resources into Bedfordshire and Luton
- To encourage groups to attend a monthly Network/training sessions – 4 in Bedford and 4 in Luton, to foster joint and partnership working and share good practice in community learning and address key capacity building training
- To signpost organisations for IA and to mainstream provision including skills for life and full Level 2
Project Outputs
- Devised an Organisation Health Check Tool Kit to use as part of identifying key capacity building need for each Group and as a tool to measure impact of project
- Engaged with 15 BME community groups in Bedfordshire & Luton; undertook Health Check where appropriate and developed action plan based on individual group needs
- Worked with each Group to build capacity through 1-2-1 support work which included Business Planning, development of Policies, development of Project Management Cycle (stage 1 – planning), identified potential sources of funding, and signposted groups to be able to identify funding sources through CVSs and Learning Partnership, supported groups to make funding applications
- 4 Networking events and 2 extended Networking/training events in Bedford and Luton focussed on Accessing Funding, IAG and Learner progression routes as part of Skills for Life activity, Preparing for NLDC.
Project Outcomes
The Capacity Building Project achieved the Objectives; 15 BME community groups were engaged and supported. Capacity of Groups increased by an overall average of 54% and in particular increased in the areas of Strategic Planning, Finance & funding and Activities and Services.
