The University of Bedfordshire is the largest higher education institution in its region of the United Kingdom and provides excellent opportunities for more people to access top quality higher education.

With five campuses spread across Bedfordshire, the University is the single major provider of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional education in the county. It is located about 40 minutes from London.

The University was established in August 2006, following the merger between the University of Luton and De Montfort University’s Bedford campus. The Bedford Campus has academic roots that go back to the founding of Bedford Training College for Teachers in 1882 and Bedford Physical Training College in 1903.

The University has 1,200 staff along with 23,000 students from over 100 countries. It also has nine research institutes and is investing £180m in new facilities.  Last October it opened a £34m Campus Centre in Luton and in the autumn new halls of residence will open in the town. A postgraduate and continuing professional development centre is due to open in 2013. Its Bedford campus has also seen major redevelopments including a new Campus Centre, £20m ensuite halls of residence and an £8m PE and Sport Science Centre.

It has won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2011. Students who choose to study at the University benefit from:

It was commended in the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008 for its ‘world-leading’ research in Earth Systems and Environmental Science; Social Work, Social Policy and Administration; Sport, Tourism and Leisure; English Language and Literature; and Communications, Cultural and Media Studies.

The RAE also rated the University’s research as ‘internationally excellent’ in the areas of Computer Science and Informatics, and Business and Management Studies.
