Connexions is a free service that offers information, impartial advice, guidance and support to all young people aged 13-19 (and older for some young people with learning difficulties or disabilities).
Connexions helps young people to access personal development opportunities and makes a smooth transition to adulthood and working life. The service is delivered locally by the Connexions Partnership Bedfordshire & Luton which aims to develop services that are relevant to young people aged 13-19 and to involve young people in the planning and delivery of those services.
Every young person will have access to a Personal Adviser (PA) who can offer them a service tailored to meet their individual needs. For some young people this may just be for careers advice, for others it may also involve more in-depth support. PAs offer practical support and advice with important life choices such as education, training and employment. In addition, they can help young people to deal with issues like bullying, relationships, health, racism, and money and this may involve referring them to more specialist agencies. Information is held in confidence unless a young person gives their consent to share it. PAs are available in schools and colleges or can be contacted by calling Connexions on freephone 0800 032 1319.
Connexions joins up the work of six government departments and their agencies and organisations on the ground, together with private and voluntary sector groups and youth and careers services. Connexions works with other local organisations including schools, colleges, youth services, employers and the Learning & Skills Council plus a range of specialist agencies such as Youth Offending Teams, Drug Action Teams, Homelessness Agencies and other Voluntary and Independent Organisations.
The Connexions Service is delivered in Connexions Communities which means you can find the service near where you live. There are Connexions Centres where young people can drop in for information, advice and Access Points where appointments can be made to talk to a PA.
