Bedford College

Bedford College is the largest local education provider, with nine sites across Bedford, Kempston, Biggleswade, Luton and Rushden.  It has a long and established reputation for offering further, adult and higher education courses, with origins dating back to 1953.  Today more than 16,000 students representing over 107 different nationalities attend the College, reflecting the diverse population of Bedford.

The College offers an extensive choice of practical and academic courses to suit all learning needs and levels of ability, ranging from A Levels, GCSEs and degree-level programmes to work-related NVQs, Apprenticeships, BTEC qualifications and professional certificates / diplomas.   As well as offering full-time study programmes, many of these can be studied on a part-time or flexible basis to fit around students’ lifestyles.

Bedford College Sixth Form Centre is the biggest in Bedfordshire.  We are only one of three local sixth forms to win the Good School Guide A Level Award and send more students to university than any other local school.  In 2005, 100% of our A2 Level students passed!

We also have four government approved Centres of Vocational Excellence in Plumbing, Care, House Building and Business – most colleges only have one.

Results, results, results

Facilities, teaching and support
We collectively boast the best range of facilities, workshops, training rooms and equipment in the county.  These include a £2.5 million sports and leisure centre, a dedicated business and management centre, a commercial training restaurant and hair and beauty spa, dedicated plumbing, vehicle training and construction centres, engineering workshops, a technical IT centre, and art, design and media studios.

No matter what course students choose, they will be taught by someone who is a specialist in their subject area.  Many of our teaching staff have strong industry connections, so they can give students advice on how to get on after their course has finished.

Bedford College celebrates student diversity and is committed to providing a learning environment which values individuals equally regardless of age, disability, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marital status or trade union membership.  We can provide equipment and support for those with a learning difficulty or disability, as well as extra help with reading, writing, maths or planning assignments.
